- Surgical Oncologist - Regional Program Development
Description
Fox Chase Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and part of Temple Health, is seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible surgical oncologist to help build and grow surgical oncology services across our regional campuses. This is a rare opportunity to establish a high-quality, community-based surgical oncology practice with the full clinical, research, and educational infrastructure of an academic cancer center behind it, and to bring Fox Chase expertise closer to where our patients live and work.
The Opportunity
As Fox Chase extends its footprint, the Division of Surgical Oncology is investing in the people and programs that will define cancer surgery at our regional sites. The successful candidate will be a foundational member of this effort, developing a broad general surgical oncology practice, cultivating relationships with referring physicians and community partners, and ensuring that every patient treated regionally receives care that meets the Fox Chase standard. Regional faculty remain fully integrated with the main campus through shared multidisciplinary tumor boards, common clinical pathways, access to clinical trials, and seamless referral to main-campus surgical, interventional, and inpatient resources when complex care is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical care: Deliver comprehensive, evidence-based surgical care across general surgical oncology, including gastrointestinal, cutaneous, soft tissue, and other solid tumor malignancies.
- Program building: Lead the growth of surgical oncology services at regional campuses, including clinic development, outreach, and referral network building with primary care, gastroenterology, medical oncology, and community surgical colleagues.
- Multidisciplinary practice: Collaborate closely with medical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, and supportive care, and participate in site-based and system-wide tumor boards.
- Research and trials: Partner with research colleagues to expand patient access to clinical trials and novel therapies at regional sites.
- Quality and standardization: Contribute to quality improvement, outcomes tracking, and standardized care pathways that deliver consistent care across all Fox Chase locations.
- Education: Teach and mentor fellows in our ACGME-accredited Complex General Surgical Oncology fellowship, as well as residents and medical students.
- Leadership: Participate in divisional and departmental program development as our regional network continues to grow.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree; board certified or board eligible in general surgery.
- Completion of fellowship training in Complex General Surgical Oncology, or equivalent, preferred.
- Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
- Demonstrated interest in program development, community engagement, and expanding access to high-quality cancer care.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills, with a strong commitment to patient-centered, multidisciplinary care.
What We Offer
- Academic faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery.
- The opportunity to shape a growing regional program from its early stages, with institutional investment and leadership support.
- Membership in a well-established division with nationally recognized programs in pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery, peritoneal surface malignancies, advanced liver-directed therapies including hepatic artery infusion pump placement, and robotic surgery.
- Access to Fox Chase clinical trials, research infrastructure, and an engaged community of clinician-scientists.
- Competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package.
