The Division of Thoracic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Arizona is offering one position for the one-year non-accredited Advanced Thoracic Surgery Fellowship position for the academic year 2025-2026
Mayo Clinic in Arizona (MCA) provides a rigorous academic environment in an institution undergoing rapid growth. The MCA Advanced Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program offers comprehensive training in all areas of thoracic surgery.
Highlights of the Program:
High surgical volumes: Performs over 650 thoracic surgery cases annually.
Pioneering center: Advanced techniques including robotic thoracic surgery, complex thoracoscopy, minimally invasive pectus repair, chest wall sarcomas, intrapleural chemotherapy for mesothelioma, and complex esophageal disease.
Multidisciplinary clinical practice: We collaborate with a Multi-disciplinary Thoracic Tumor Board to treat a wide range of thoracic malignancies, and with GI, GYN, ENT, renal, and sarcoma disease groups to treat secondary lung malignancies. There are unique opportunities in complex esophageal disease, ECMO/lung failure, and surgical management of cavitary pulmonary coccidioidomycosis which is endemic to Arizona.
Research: Dedicated research time during the fellowship to work on studies, clinical reviews, and national/regional meeting presentations. Monthly meeting with a department-based collaborative research group to improve fellow involvement in ongoing research projects.
Educational conferences include:
- Multi-disciplinary Thoracic Tumor board: Weekly
- Cardiothoracic Grand Rounds: Quarterly
- Journal Article Review: Monthly
- Educational Conferences for mid-level providers and residents: Monthly
- Mortality/Morbidity conference and quality review quarterly.
- Esophageal Cancer Tumor board: Twice a month
