Company History
Since 1972, Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster (OAL) has been helping people throughout Central Pennsylvania move better, feel better, and get back to doing the things they love. What began as a small orthopedic practice founded by four orthopedic surgeons has grown into one of the region's most trusted and respected orthopedic healthcare organizations.
In 1978, the practice officially became Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, Ltd. As the community's needs grew, so did we. Our team expanded from four surgeons to eight, then ten, and continued to grow as we added providers, services, and locations to better serve our patients.
A major milestone came in 2007 when we opened our Lancaster campus, which remains our headquarters today. This expansion also paved the way for the creation of North Pointe Surgery Center (NPSC), our state-of-the-art outpatient surgery center designed to provide convenient, high-quality surgical care close to home.
The following year, we expanded south with the opening of our Willow Street office. This location allows us to serve residents of Willow Valley Retirement Community, southern Lancaster County, and neighboring communities with convenient access to specialized orthopedic care.
In 2013, OAL opened a location within the newly renovated Spooky Nook Sports Complex. This exciting partnership gave us the opportunity to care for athletes of all ages and skill levels, including members of the USA Women's Field Hockey Team, while continuing to provide expert care to the broader community.
Our growth continued in 2015 with the opening of our North Cornwall Health Center in Lebanon County. Spanning nearly 90,000 square feet, the facility is home to both OAL and NPSC, along with several healthcare partners, allowing patients greater access to comprehensive services closer to home.
In 2018, OAL launched the region's first orthopedic urgent care center. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this service became an important resource for patients with orthopedic injuries who needed prompt, specialized treatment without visiting a hospital emergency department. Today, our Lancaster Orthopedic Urgent Care remains open seven days a week, and same-day appointments are available at multiple OAL locations.
In 2022, North Pointe Surgery Center brought anesthesia services in-house by building a dedicated team of anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). This enhancement further strengthened our ability to deliver exceptional patient care throughout every stage of the surgical experience.
Most recently, in 2023, OAL expanded eastward with the opening of our Ephrata office. This location brings specialized orthopedic care even closer to residents of eastern Lancaster County and the surrounding region.
More than five decades after opening our doors, OAL continues to grow and evolve while remaining committed to the same mission that started it all: providing exceptional orthopedic care to the communities we proudly serve. We continue to be independently owned and operated by our Orthopedic Surgeons and are excited for the future.
